Covid-19 FAQs

  • COVID-19 is a contagious respiratory illness caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2. It was first identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and has since spread globally, resulting in a pandemic.

  • Symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild to severe and may include fever, cough, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath, body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion, and diarrhea. Some people may be asymptomatic, meaning they do not have any symptoms.

  • COVID-19 is primarily spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person talks, coughs, or sneezes. It can also be spread by touching a surface contaminated with the virus and then touching your face or mouth.

  • You can protect yourself from COVID-19 by washing your hands frequently with soap and water, wearing a mask when in public or around others, practicing physical distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from others, avoiding crowded indoor spaces, and getting vaccinated.

  • If you think you have COVID-19, you should stay home and isolate yourself from others. Contact your healthcare provider to determine whether you need to be tested for COVID-19 or receive medical care. If you have severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, or bluish lips or face, seek medical attention immediately.

  • The duration of illness and recovery from COVID-19 can vary depending on the severity of symptoms and individual factors. Some people may recover within a few days, while others may experience symptoms for several weeks or even months. Those with severe illness may require hospitalization and may have a longer recovery time.
