InstaCare vs. Urgent Care

Ever wondered about the difference between urgent care and InstaCare? In Utah, many people use these phrases synonymously. But are they the same thing?

InstaCare is a trade name

A Utah-based hospital system has long used the InstaCare moniker for its urgent care and walk-in clinics. This hospital system is so ubiquitous in Utah that many people who grew up in Utah may not realize that InstaCare is a brand name .

This chart from Google Trends illustrates that, at least in Utah, many people search for "instacare" as a proxy for urgent care.

You can think of instacare like the difference between Kleenex and tissue. Kleenex is a brand name for tissue, but is used so frequently in the market that now people associate tissue as Kleenex.

Other examples of this naming phenomenon include dry ice, kerosene, trampoline, and aspirin.
